OWEN ELLIOT REED
an original character
written by charles

RULE I. be patient. i work a lot and have other hobbies and quite honestly don't get on tumblr very often anymore. i mostly wanted to create this blog to have an easily accessible hub for this oc's information, so writing here is a second bonus to that.RULE II. do not interact if we are not mutuals or if you are UNDER 21. this goes for both roleplay blogs and personal blogs alike. i've been on this website too many times and like to curate my dashboard with people that i am comfortable with and interested in writing with.RULE III. not that i think this needs to be said, but just in case, DO NOT USE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THIS CHARACTER UNLESS GIVEN PERMISSION. he is my own creation, and any use of him in any other context by any other writer is not welcome.

RULE IV. if we do become mutuals and do begin to plot, please give me something to work with. there's nothing more frustrating than approaching a conversation about plotting as the only person who is giving any actual input. if we start talking and i feel like we're not getting anywhere together, i will stop replying.RULE V. if you have any questions for me or for owen, please feel free to send them! i created this blog because i love this character i've made and i want to flesh him out.RULE VI. i tag trigger warnings that seem clear to me, but if you have any triggers that i've missed somewhere, absolutely let me know so i can adjust it and tag it moving forward. for me, i need animal cruelty, 13 reasons why, and any in depth descriptions of pregnancy to be tagged. let's be respectful and have fun!

my name is charles, i'm 30, and i've been bouncing around tumblr for over ten years. this is one of few ocs i've actually published here, so be nice to me or i'll cry.BLOG GRAPHICS PSD: poohresources ICON CREDIT: tutorgirlcommissions

biography.

owen reed is the only biological child of marcia and seamus reed. marcia got pregnant with owen in her sophomore year of college, seamus's senior year, and continued to attend school throughout her pregnancy and as soon as she could afterward, unwilling to let it derail her plans for her career even though it wasn't planned. despite both of his parents being so career-driven, owen doesn't recall feeling starved for love or attention. when his parents were home with him they doted on him and when he was five they adopted his "twin" sister sameera, who he calls sammy. sameera has the exact same birthday as owen--- may 25th, 1996-- but was born few hours after him. from then on, he never felt alone.seamus was a loving, attentive father, but he was also a successful and therefore busy real estate attorney. he wasn't home as much as any of them would have liked, including himself, but there was no resentment. he was present when he was around and was providing for them when he wasn't. when owen and sameera were eleven, seamus passed away due to a sudden heart attack during a school day. it happened so quickly that it took the entire family quite some time to process it or even begin to grieve the loss. one of seamus's close work colleagues, family friend lou parsons, was one of the people in their lives who stepped up the most following seamus's death. he helped with anything that was suddenly overhelming for marcia, like taking sameera to soccer practice or going to the grocery store for a few essential items here and there. in a slow, natural way he became part of the family, and when owen and sameera were sixteen, lou and marcia got married.later that same year the four of them went on a family vacation to maui. sameera had coaxed owen out onto the beach to teach him to surf--- something she'd taken an interest in--- and while they were out on the water, owen got taken under by the tide and had to be pulled out of the water, unconscious. he was given cpr by a lifeguard, and has since then not gone into the ocean once. he doesn't even like to talk about it and still has nightmares about drowning.owen's love for debate stated in his freshman year of high school. he joined solely because it would look good on college applications, especially since he wanted to attend law school, but he found that he thoroughly enjoyed it. he loved defending either side of an argument, getting into the mindset of someone with beliefs different than his own, and learning to present these different beliefs in a way that could manipulate someone into believing the same thing. he became captain of the debate team in his junior year, won regionals that year, and won nationals the next year. he was also given a debate scholarship by his college of choice, and went with their team to nationals more than once.in his senior year of college on march 5th, 2018, on the way to his final national debate competition in hawaii (he gets the feeling he was never once supposed to go to hawaii and the universe was punishing him for doing so), owen was part of a devastating plane crash (starlight airlines flight 1408) that left the surviving thirty-two passengers stranded on an island for five months and twenty days.on the flight, owen and his two teammates were in a line of seats together: cameron day in 27A, shauna jackson in 27B, and owen in 27C. professor sofie phan, their escort and coach, was across the aisle in 27E. the majority of the flight was overnight; they were going to land at four am, go to the hotel, get some solid sleep, have one day to enjoy the island and prepare for the competition, and the next day was when the competition would be held. most of the passengers were asleep when they first hit turbulence and started to go off course. owen remembers waking with a start and seeing other passengers scrambling to get their oxygen masks onto themselves and the people around them. he could only see darkness out of the plane's window, no lights, and panic crushed his chest as shauna grabbed onto his hand so tightly that it hurt. everything between that and waking up in the sand as a wave rolled over his face is a blur.after kicking himself further up onto the beach and away from the water as quickly as he could, owen began to catch things on the edge of his vision, which was locked firmly on the black expanse of the ocean in front of him. all he could see was the back half of the plane--- the front was nowhere to be found--- and it was beginning to catch fire. the flames are what caused him to turn his head and catch a few more things in the growing light. people were crying, screaming, desperately snatching at their seatbelts to try and get out of the plane before an inevitable explosion. luggage was scattered across the ground and one of the suitcases was being pulled out to sea by the tide. soon to follow it, he realized, was a motionless passenger just at the edge of the water like he'd been a few moments before. this is what made him get to his feet, but he didn't run to him. his entire body was screaming at him to get further from the water, not closer to it, and so he shouted at the first person he spotted--- a disheveled and shaky flight attendant--- and told her to pull him back from the waves. then he began to look for shauna, cameron, and professor phan.cameron was still in his seat, unmoving with a large piece of shrapnel lodged firmly through his chest and into the seat behind him; that sight never left owen's mind. professor phan wasn't in her seat and wasn't on the island; owen never saw her again. shauna was halfway up the beach, frantically trying to give cpr to a girl who looked to be about thirteen. a drop of relief hit him and rippled slowly outward until his shock flipped into a sense of urgency and he was able to jump in and help everyone that he could. he did so with a pounding headache. only once he got a chance to sit down did he touch his fingers to his forehead to find that at some point during the crash, he must have hit it on something because there was dried blood on his skin and a deep cut just beneath his hairline. he didn't sleep that night.by the time they were found almost six months later, there were only seventeeen of them left. no one who wasn't on that island knows what they had to do to survive.
